Divine Providence

You can buy two sparrows for only a copper coin, yet not even one sparrow falls from its nest without the knowledge of your Father. Aren’t you worth much more to God than many sparrows? 30–31 So don’t worry. For your Father cares deeply about even the smallest detail of your life.
- Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:29-31 (TPT))

The words "Do not fear/worry" is arguable one of the most commonly said words by God that appear throughout Scripture, right from the old testament all through to the new testament.  If God keeps on saying these words repeatedly, it must mean that He is addressing a prominent aspect of our lives that we are bound to face often while on earth ... the fear of lack/uncertainty. This means that we are bound to worry and be afraid ... a lot.!

The first half of the year 2020 has been quite a ride, and a number of us are no longer here with us. So many people are grieving with loss in one form or the other.  Some have lost friends, partners, siblings, relatives, jobs, faith, hope and even their own lives.  In such a  time as this, where there is so much uncertainty around, Jesus calls us to remember that we need not worry about anything ... for our Father (He used "your" - because He sees us as adopted sons and daughters of God the Father) cares deeply about even the smallest detail of our lives.

Do Not Worry ...

Worrying is the next greatest evil to a man's soul after Sin. Why? Well, it robs us of our peace and blinds us from seeing God in our lives. Worrying leads us to believe that we are 'self-sufficient' -which is a lie from the pits of hell and it drives us to seek out solutions to our need by ourselves. This is a trick from the evil one to isolate us from the true source of our sustenance - GOD, to enable him to position himself as a 'helper'.

The devil is not a helper rather he is a thief and a destroyer. The devil creates the illusion of providing speedy relief and solutions to your immediate needs/problems but just like a mirage, it all disappears the closer you get to it and then once he has you where he wants (isolated from the Throne of Grace), he takes away the little you have and destroys it all.

God, on the other hand, takes the little you have to offer (a humble prayer from a heart that recognises his or her total dependence on the Mercy of God) and gives you more ... just as He did with the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes. God is the Provider who even restores all that the devil has stolen from you just as He did in the case of Job, Mary Magdalene, as well as in the case of the parable of the prodigal son and all through time - God Gives and God Restores.

God who created us and loves us so dearly knows all that we need and He is the one whom we should approach with child-like faith, trusting that He is a Good Good Father.
If God Almighty could provide Himself by dying an agonizing death on the Cross of Calvary as an atonement for our sins so we could all have access to eternal life, is there really anything that He cannot provide for us?😊

Right Priorities

Matthew 6:33 - tells us that if we focus on God and His Righteousness, all things (needs and wants) will be added abundantly. God in His wisdom gives us just what we need at the right time.

At times, what we classify as a need, may just be a want while in some cases, we may lack the virtue to possess that which we need and as such, God in His merciful love nurtures us in certain situations (which we often kick against) so that we can grow the needed virtue to handle what we ask for.  One of the main causes of sin is the abuse of created things and God will not want to give/grant us anything that will cause us to be separated from Him. You may argue that if He gives you that job, you would not leave Him, but recall that God sees the end from the beginning and so you cannot be wiser than Him. For instance, If He doesn't nurture you in the virtue of honesty, you might be tempted to do very dishonest things at that job in your feeble attempt to secure it when the enemy threatens you with it.

In seeking God and His Righteousness, we acknowledge that He is our Ultimate Need, the main necessity in our lives. Without Him, none of us would exist. He is an all-sufficient God, we need Him. He doesn't need us but He desires us as He created us for Himself - to enjoy Him because He is Love.

The beauty in seeking God is that as we grow deeper in intimacy with Him, we most likely won't even think about what we need or want, for we will be more trusting that He - who deeply cares for us is more than able to provide accordingly as a loving parent would do for the family.

One Day at a Time

In the Lord's prayer, Christ taught us saying "... Give us this day, our daily bread." This is the best advice ever. It is safe to say that COVID-19 has re-emphasised the lesson behind that line of the prayer, and that is - you have no control over tomorrow, so face today and ask for the Grace needed for today. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Even the next Second/Minute/Hour is not promised. I have heard of people who slumped on their way to work, to get food or while just going about their daily lives. I believe that this reality we have found ourselves in was permitted by God not to scare you, rather, it serves as a season where Truths are unveiled - one of which is that Everything here on earth is fleeting. Let us not get distracted by worrying about the future! It is great to plan but let's just plan and commit these plans to God, do the best we can to have God always as our focal point. All that we do on earth should work towards reaching our real home - Heaven (Union with God).

Let us not get distracted with all that is happening around us.
Be still and know that He is God. Remember, a thousand may fall at our side, Ten thousand right beside us, but we will not fear anything, for God is with us, He is our Shield and He is Faithful, from Age to Age.
Do not be afraid. Trust in God and All will be Well.
May the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, reign in our hearts and may the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in perfect peace, Amen.
