The Vulnerable God

Image
Vulnerable …  It may appear somewhat scandalous to have such a word as vulnerable  be used to describe the One who is the Creator of all that exists and Who sustains it all. I agree that it is a bit unsettling, however, the more we look at the character of God throughout scriptures and in our lives, the more we get to understand that with God , anything that is perceived as bad, turns Good and this applies to the human concept of vulnerability . The Definition According to Google, the Oxford English definition of the word 'Vulnerable' are as below: As an adjective - exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed , either physically or emotionally. Of a person -   in need of special care, support, or protection because of age, disability, or risk of abuse or neglect. e.g. "the scheme will help charities working with vulnerable adults and young people" You can out rightly conclude that no one in their right mind would ever want to be seen or perceived as bei...

The God We Do not Deserve

Image
Hello! Last Sunday was celebrated as The Divine Mercy Sunday and so, I see this week as the week of Mercy 😊 . Mercy ... Mercy ... Mercy ... as I ponder about the Mercy of God (my mind delights in taking mental trips that lead towards discovering more about Him), I can't help but stop my train of thoughts as I arrive at the same question that I keep asking; "what is man that You are so mindful of him?" ( Psalm 8:4-5 ) Mercy that Won't Let Go Diary of St. Faustina (sourced from Pinterest ) God's mercy cannot be exhausted in one's lifetime. His Mercy is endless. We catch a glimpse of the depth of His Mercy and the extent to which it would go, in His Passion. He could have given up on the way to Calvary,  yet He bore the weight of the heavy cross on His wounded back, for our sake.  He could have destroyed us in an instant and recreated another world, yet He chose to pay the FULL price for our redemption from bondage - which we got ourselves in...

In a Time Such as This ...

Image
Hello! It has been a stressful period here lately. Asides from the pressures and demands of work, there is undeniable negative energy loaming around as a result of the effects of the coronavirus plaguing the world and its economy at the moment. Businesses are shutting down, sources of livelihood are being sealed off. Apart from the horrible financial implications being borne by many, people are growing hungry, giving in to anxiety, fear, and in some drastic cases, despair . Many are turning to crime, abuse of alcohol, drugs & other things as a coping mechanism. The Divine Mercy Icon (source: Pinterest ) In this chaos, we seem to be experiencing a case of perfect timing as we approach the Feast of Divine Mercy - a feast where we celebrate the immeasurable mercy of God through the Crucified and Wounded Heart of Jesus Christ and also implore abundant mercy and grace upon ourselves and on the world . The Novena began on Good Friday and today is day 6. You can join in ...

Reflections on the Readings of the Day - 8th April 2020

Image
(Holy Week/Last Week of Lent) ----------------------------------------------- First Reading:  Isaiah 50: 4-9a Res. Psalm:  Psalm 69: 8-10. 21-22. 31. & 33-34 (R.14c,b) The verse before the Gospel:  Hail our King! You alone have had mercy on our failings! Gospel:  Matthew 26: 14-25 ---------------------------------------------- Hello Readers! As we approach the crux of the Lenten season, the readings just like yesterday are centred on the agony and betrayal of our Lord Jesus Christ. Highlighted by the Holy Spirit in the readings of today was the act of ' Submission '.  Google defines submission as  the action of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person. In line with what was shared in yesterday's reflection, the choices we make, result from who we submit our will to.   In life here on earth, there are two forces at play for our submission - The force of Good and that of...

Reflections on the Readings of the Day - 7th April 2020

(Holy Week/Last Week of Lent) ----------------------------------------------- First Reading:  Isaiah 49: 1-6 Res. Psalm:  Psalm 71: 1-2. 3-4a. 5-6ab & 17 (R.15ab) The verse before the Gospel:  Hail our King! Obedient to the Father; You were led to Crucifixion like a meek lamb to the slaughter . Gospel:  John 13: 21-33. 36-38 ---------------------------------------------- Hello Readers! The first reading speaks of Jesus through the mouth of the Prophet Isaiah. Jesus was brought into this world for a purpose - to bring God's people back to Him by restoring the once perfect relationship that was torn by Sin.  Sin can simply be defined as Man's free will (choice) to not trust God. Every act of Sin stems from disobedience to God's word, and this is usually as a result of a lack of trust in God.  The root cause of theft is the lack of trust in God to meet our needs . The root cause of g reed is the lack of trust in God to su...

Reflections on the Readings of the Day - 6th April 2020

(Holy Week/Last Week of Lent) ----------------------------------------------- First Reading: Isaiah 42: 1-7 Res. Psalm: Psalm 27: 1. 2. 3. 13-14 (R.1a) The verse before the Gospel: Hail our King! You alone have had mercy on our failings . Gospel: John 12: 1-11 ---------------------------------------------- Hello Readers! Today's reflection is built around the theme as seen in the responsorial psalm: The Lord is my Light & my Salvation, whom shall I fear? One is reminded again, when going through the readings, of the fact that Salvation is gotten, only through Jesus Christ . Isaiah prophesied about the Saviour, whom God uses, to bring Liberation and Freedom to His people. Below are some of the beautiful traits of this Saviour of ours: Bearing wrongs patiently - He did not complain despite being wrongly treated. Perseverance - He did not give up!  Commitment - He finished what He started. These few traits, call to mind the first letter of St. Paul to the...

The Flawed Sense of Justice.

Utilizing the daily readings for 11th September 2018 from the Catholic Missal, the lessons learnt has left a mark within me..which I'd like to share. First Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:1-11  Res.Psalm: Psalms 149:1-6, 9 Gospel: Luke 6:12-19 The Lessons: Leave Judgment to God and endure until HE wills it time to show up. Die to self - Loose it all for the Sake of God Almighty in Christ Jesus, is in itself Great Gain. To Willingly Accept Injustice?? In the first reading, St. Paul says "Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? " - this reminds me of Jesus' words in Matthew 5:39 - " Turn the other cheek. .". As Christians, we are called to love..and to love even those who hurt us (this distinguishes us from the non-believers). This doesn't make logical sense at all, Nope, Not at all! Which is why the people preferred the law of Moses stating an eye for an eye (as in Exodus 21:24 ) - YASS!! This is more like it! Yh? Thing is thi...

Trusting PAPA ...Unconditionally 💓

Apologies: I am truly sorry for the hiatus 🙏. Compliments of the season! 😁😁  Don't forget that Jesus is the Reason for the Season. Definition of Trust: Firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something. -Google definition (29/12/2017) Courtesy: The Christian Post I am certain that you may have heard these words as much as you hear greetings/pleasantries.. "Trust God", "Trust His Timing", "It is well" etc. When we have issues and we pray expecting prompt responses/answers, what's our response when we don't see or hear them? While trying to figure out our next line of action, we are met with these same words "Trust God". When the world is crumbling around you and you run to the nearest house of God weeping asking the man of God to intercede for you. Rounds of prayers, fasting, offerings etc. follow and then you are met with the same words "Trust God". The doubts begin to crawl...
